Thai grilled pork neck or pork jowl is a cut from a pig's cheek. It's a thin and fatty pieces of meat. Marinated with soy sauce, oyster sauce and coconut sugar. Grilled over charcoal and serve with Num Jim Jaew (spicy toasted chili sauce) and sticky rice.
NOTES:
- Most grocery store don't really carrie it but you can fine pork neck at some asian grocery store.
- No need to cook to long because it's a thin pieces of meat.
- Normally we grill over charcoal but gas grill will work just fine.
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 lb. Pork Neck
4 cloves, Garlic
1 tbsp. Cilantro Roots or Stems, chopped
2 tbsp. Coconut Sugar
2 tbsp. Oyster Sauce
2 tbsp. Light Soy Sauce
1 tsp. Peppercorn
DIRECTIONS
Pound garlic and peppercorn in a mortar, till become coarse paste.
In a large bowl mix the paste, coconut sugar, oyster sauce and light soy sauce.
Add pork into the marinated sauce and massage with you hands and coat the pork well.
Cover and refrigerate overnight or at least 3 hours.
Cook the pork over the grill for about 3-5 minutes each side until the pork is slightly charred.
Transfer to the plate and rest for 5 minutes.
Cut the pork against the grain into thin slices.
Sever with Num Jim Jaew and eat with sticky rice.
